Discipleship & Mentoring
Fraser Lands has two programs: Discipleship Groups and Mentoring Relationships which both involve spurring growth, transferring wisdom, and developing lasting friendships but differ in the level of commitment.
Discipleship groups use the book "Discipleship Essentials: A Guide to Building Your Life in Christ" by Greg Ogden. It has 25 studies designed for use in groups of 3 to 5 people. These Discipleship Groups meet every week or every two weeks for about 1.5 - 2 hours studying the material in these discipleship guides, doing Bible study, memorizing verses, praying for one another, and sharing life together. Each group meets together for about 1 - 2 years and is encouraged to start their own groups afterwards so that the culture of discipling others is fostered and multiplied in time. These Discipleship Groups call for a high-level of commitment.
New Discipleship Groups begin at various times of the year depending on when there is enough people to form a group. For those interested in joining a Discipleship Group please sign up below or contact Elder Lester Marr or Pastor Josh.
Mentoring relationships on the other hand, match up younger aged Christians (ages 19 to 45) with more mature Christians (ages 40 to 80) within the English congregation. The purpose of these relationships is to allow mentoring to take place between the generations as we spur one another on towards love and good deeds. The frequency of these get-togethers will depend on the availability of those who are matched but will be a minimum of once every 2 months with a commitment for 12 months.
These Mentoring Relationships will take place over a meal as those who are involved will share life experiences, encourage, and be a prayer support and cheerleader for one another. As with the Discipleship Groups, the Mentoring Relationships are arranged by gender with the latter being a one-on-one pairing. After one year, Mentoring participants are paired up with a different partner in order to build more relationships and gain more wisdom. Those parties wishing to continue the mentoring partnership after one year can continue to do so outside the formal mentoring program.
Mentoring Relationships start in January and finish in December. For those interested in joining this program, please fill out an the Mentee/Mentor application form and forward it to Elder Lester Marr. Mentors must be members of Fraser Lands Church.
