Lytton Ministry Trip - River Festival 2026 Recap

Lytton Ministry Update - Our Largest Ministry Team to Lytton

On Saturday September 5, 2026, 61 volunteers in 17 vehicles headed up to Lytton to help out in their 22nd annual River Festival. This is the largest team we assembled for this ministry since the 2021 wildfire that destroyed over 95% of the village.

Answered Prayers
This particular trip was not without challenges. Due to the ongoing forest fire in Fraser Canyon, Highway 1 was closed between Yale and Boston Bar. On August 24, we told the leader of the festival that if the road closure continues, we will not be able to make the trip to Lytton. The response we got from her was: “I’m counting on your collective prayers to help open the highway and allow us to continue as planned on the 5th and 6th (September)”. We spread the word through our prayer team and sent out an urgent prayer request asking God to “do something about the weather” that would allow the reopening of the highway. Lo and behold! The highway was reopened on August 26!

Children's Carnival and the Lytton Chinese History Museum
In addition to the usual children's carnival that included games, photo booth, hotdogs, popcorn, face painting and cotton candy, we partnered with Lytton Chinese History Museum and Lytton First Nations to host a special heritage showcase tracing the lives of early Chinese settlers. It honoured the immense hardships and lasting contributions of the thousands of Chinese miners, merchants, and workers who built the Canadian Pacific Railway through the Fraser Canyon.

Highlights of the showcase included displays showing the unique, supportive relationships forged between early Chinese pioneers and the local First Nations communities, traditional live music performance showcasing the Erhu (two-stringed bowed instrument), and a personalized Chinese calligraphy demonstration translating phonetically name of visitors into beautifully brushed Chinese characters on traditional Xuan rice paper. 

Meaningful Connections
Another added activity since our Mayday trip was setting up a ‘drop-in’ tent to connect with people in the community.  There were quite a few people who visited the tent, and we were able to have meaningful conversation and shared the gospel with some Lytton residents. 

To conclude our ministry trip, we had dinner at Kumsheen Rafting Resort because the restaurant we usually go to in Boston Bar was closed due to forest fire. We all enjoyed a scrumptious buffet dinner and listened to a few heartfelt sharing about what happened that day. We were truly blessed.
