In Exodus 5–6, Moses is dealing with failure and disappointment. Even though God has clearly called and commissioned Moses, Pharaoh has proven defiant and cruel. Rather than helping, Moses has made the suffering of his people worse. Into this dire situation, God reveals that He is a redeemer who will call the Israelites from slavery to sonship.
