Help for Lytton Fire Evacuees
Sustaining the Plan - 100 Days After the Fire

Updated: October 15, 2021

October 8 marked the 100th day after the wildfire that destroyed the town of Lytton!

On Sunday October 3, 2021 two teams made separate trips to Lytton and Merritt.

The Lytton team was composed of three vehicles and 7 members from Fraser Lands Church and Richmond Capstan Alliance Church delivering supplies to Skuppah Fire Relief Centre. Our supplies are very much appreciated by the people who are still in the Lytton area. Since the Lytton townsite was destroyed by wildfire, there is no place in the area where people can purchase their daily needs. We spent time chatting with the few people operating the Relief Centre.  We listened to their stories and desire to rebuild the Lytton community. Some evacuees are gradually returning but a lot of rebuilding is needed – physically and emotionally. We sensed their disappointment and frustration as well as their spirit of perseverance and hope.

The Merritt team was composed of five vehicles and 18 members from Fraser Lands Church and Richmond Capstan Alliance Church. Supplies were dropped off at Nicola Valley Food Bank before joining a special event held by Somang Mission Community. The event started with praise and worship, followed by sharing from the missionary John Kim and some members in the congregation. We were touched by their testimonies and praise God for His faithfulness. We prepared 60 packaged meals to share with the congregation. The event ended with musical presentation, prize draws, and free hair cuts conducted by our members. It was a day of uplifting experience serving and getting to know the people there. We are also planning on conducting a laptop computer clinic on that day to help the people there with their computers.

In terms of Merritt, we are working with Somang Mission Community to provide support for the coming Christmas season in reaching out to the Lytton evacuees in the area.

We are continuing our work with Richmond Capstan Alliance Church to collect and deliver supplies to the fire evacuees in the coming months on a regular basis. Click here for the lastest updates.

Thank you for your generosity and let's continue to remember the residents of Lytton and surrounding communities in our prayers.
